The Organizing Centre Presents...
Re-tracing our Roots Film Night Featuring:
Once Upon a Time in China II
7:00 pm on Friday, October 3rd
672 East Broadway (at Fraser), Vancouver
Join us for a film night as we learn about the strong history of resistance that Chinese people have waged against dynasty rule and colonial invasion. There will be a rich discussion on how our ancestors and families have also applied these lessons of struggle and victory to our experiences of exploitation and forced migration.
Once Upon a Time in China II traces the growing social movement againt foreign invasion and the imperial government in the late nineteenth century in China. It gives insight into the social and economic conditions that forced thousands of Chinese people to migrate overseas, and how those conditions also gave rise to the pro-democratic revolutionary movement led by Sun Yat Sen and other nationalist groups resisting against foreign domination. The film stars Jet Li as the legendary folk hero Wong Fei Hung who provides many action-packed martial-arts sequences.
This event is organized by the Chinese Discussion Group, organizers of Chinese descent, based out of the Organizing Centre for Social and Economic Justice.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
This event is free. Everyone is welcome.
